“Night at the Museum” Remake Officially Confirmed
According to Cinemadrame News Agency, a new installment in the “Night at the Museum” franchise is in development, a collaboration between 20th Century Studios and 21 Laps. Deadline reports that Tripper Clancy will pen the script for the project. Reports of a fourth “Night at the Museum” film first surfaced nearly six years ago.
Details about the film’s plot have not been revealed, but it is expected to be a modern narrative featuring new characters within the same museum setting. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce for 21 Laps, with Emily Morris also producing.
“Night at the Museum” originated during the era of 20th Century Fox. The films were inspired by a 1993 book by Milan Trenc and followed a night watchman at a natural history museum, played by Ben Stiller, who witnesses the exhibits come to life after dark. Shawn Levy directed the first three films, and Stiller starred in all three installments.
The first “Night at the Museum” grossed approximately $574 million in 2006, followed by “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” with around $413 million in 2009, and “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” with over $363 million in 2014. Other cast members across these three films included Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Amy Adams, Hank Azaria, Dan Stevens, and Rebel Wilson.
After the merger of Fox studios into Disney in 2019, 20th Century Animation produced the Disney+ animated film “Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again,” which premiered in 2022.
Tripper Clancy, a Writers Guild of America (WGA) Award winner, previously collaborated on Netflix’s “I Am Not Okay With This.”
21 Laps’s film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which grossed over $1.3 billion, was in cinemas last year. The fifth and final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” is another project from the company. Shawn Levy is set to direct the upcoming film “Star Wars: Starfighter,” starring Ryan Gosling. This film will begin shooting this fall and is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027.
